Phil’s Fish Market
A huge amount of my day can revolve around food, either as to what am I going to eat or where should I eat next. This is where my Co-workers are a huge enabler because when someone knows of or has tried a spot that is worthy of caloric intake: we share the wealth. One such place that became a spot on my “Food to do” list was Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing. We love traveling to the Monterey area so making a stop in this small harbor town located on Monterey Bay was a no brainer after multiple friends had said to try it out. I’d never heard of this family owned business, nor did I know it had been featured on Food Network or the BBC. Be prepared though, as many people do know of this quaint location and the line (which moves quickly considering the length) will form before the place opens at 10am with hungry patrons ready to order some of the freshest seafood I’ve ever tasted. A word to the wise, parking is rare in the small warehouse lot and most people find a spot down the road and it reminds me of hunting for spaces back at college on the first day of class. So be ready to eagle eye any open space, or drop a member of your party off at the door to secure a spot in the mega line.
Your next tactile op will be to find a place to sit. There are both indoor and outdoor options, the latter offering some views of the bay at picnic style benches complete with coastal birds waiting alongside you for your food to arrive. I’d suggest having in mind what you would like to order and a member in line to get food and someone scoping out seating options.
Be prepared that the menu is large and available online www.philsfishmarket.com with some items seasonal. There is also a fully stocked Bar just in case you feel like adding a Bloody Mary to your meal (I speak from experience and no regrets) or any of the beers available on tap.
